AZ Giving: Your Experience Counts To Train Classroom Volunteers
Mesa schools have expressed a great need for classroom volunteers for the 2017-2018 school year. “We have a shortage of at least 20 classroom volunteers to meet the needs of students and teachers in the Mesa Public Schools,” says to Mike Beardslee, program director for Your Experience Counts (YEC). YEC provided 39 volunteers to support nine Mesa elementary schools last year, but “principals have requested nearly 20 more for 2017-2018."
YEC, a program of HandsOn Greater Phoenix, is in its 12th year of training and placing volunteers in classrooms in five Phoenix area school districts – Mesa, Balsz, Osborn, Washington and Dysart. ...

Teen Lifeline first opened its doors in Phoenix in 1986. The program began after the 1985 network show, “Surviving,” aired. The show, starring Molly Ringwald, was based on two teens who died by suicide. It resulted in headlines popping up addressing the problem of teen suicide. Valley Youth Theatre to Host Shrek Themed Fundraiser: Soirėe In the Swamp
The stage is set for Valley Youth Theatre’s annual fundraising event, VYTal Affair on Saturday, August 19th beginning at 5:30pm at Herberger Theater Center. The 2017 gala, Soirée in the Swap is themed after Valley Youth Theatre’s current production of SHREK THE MUSICAL. The fantasy filled evening will feature cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, and “Shrek-takular” musical performances by stars of Valley Youth Theatre.
