Caring for sick, injured and abused pets with nowhere else to go, the Arizona Humane Society sees cases of pets who are in need of dire medical care each and every day. However, an alarming surge of Parvovirus cases has been affecting not just homeless pets but owned pets throughout our community, as well.
Pets like Sherbert, a gorgeous nine-month-old Giant Schnauzer who came to AHS in November of this year after she was found to be suffering from Parvo. Parvo is a highly contagious, highly deadly disease that affects puppies and non-vaccinated adult dogs. Last month, AHS treated approximately 120 cases in its specialized Parvo ICU as opposed to the monthly average of 40 dogs in need of lifesaving care.
Thankfully, Sherbert survived this horrible disease thanks to around-the-clock supportive care, however she serves as a reminder of the importance of vaccinating your pets to help prevent the spread of diseases like this in the first place. Now that she is feeling much better, this curly pup just wants to be cuddled all day long and given the loving treatment she deserves.
To help with capacity issues within the shelter, the Arizona Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for all pets 6 months and older through Friday, December 5th. Sweet Sherbert’s $0 adoption fee includes her spay surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip, and a follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital. Visit this adorably unique girl at the Arizona Humane Society's Papago Park Campus or learn more at azhumane.org/adopt to give her the loving forever home she deserves.
