Let’s talk politics, art and engagement with Legendary feminist activists, the Guerrilla Girls.

The evening will feature a founding member of the Guerrilla Girls, discussing relevant and important issues of our time. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) presents "Guerrilla Girls Take on Arizona” this Friday, November 18th, 2016 at 7pm at Arizona State University in conjunction with the Herberger Institute School of Art and the ASU Art Museum. This special event is free to the public with limited seating available, taking place at Arizona State University in Murdock Hall Room 101.

Saturday, November 19th the SMoCA will host Guerrilla Girls Art and Activism Workshop at 10am. The workshop is aimed to better educate you “about the Guerrilla Girls’ style of activism and how to produce your own project from a founding Guerrilla Girls member, Aestheticize your activism!” The cost of the workshop is just $35, tickets can be purchased here: http://tickets.scottsdalearts.org/single/SelectSeating.aspx?p=8912.

Be sure to explore the SMoCA’s current exhibitions that include a large group exhibition titled Push Comes to Shove: Women and Power, encompassing two galleries in SMoCA. This engaging and diverse exhibition highlights “works that deal with the themes and issues of how women exercise and think about power” focusing on 4 women’s experiences who have held leadership positions in Arizona including Kyrsten Sinema, Rebecca White Berch, Barbara Barrett, Diane Enos, and Gloria Feldt. The exhibition features dynamic selections of artwork including sculpture, paintings, fabric, video etc. highlighting an impressive list of 19 artists.

Also on view is SMoCA’s “The Architecture + Art Series” with its fifth edition of the series with Santiago Borja titled “Everything Falls into Place When It Collapses”. “SMoCA commissions architects and artists to create site-specific installations in response to the spatial, environmental and social context of the Museum’s site in Scottsdale, Arizona,” according to the SMoCA website.

SMoCA museum is located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale at 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale 85251. Admission to the museum is only $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 15 are free. Every Thursday the museum offers complementary admission as well as Friday and Saturday evenings after 5pm.
