The community showed up in full force in June for the 16th annual Bite Nite, a culinary-driven charity gala hosted by ALS Arizona. Held in Scottsdale, this year’s event raised $550,000 to support patients and families living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) across the state.

Bringing together top Valley chefs, donors, and advocates, the evening featured signature bites, craft cocktails, live music, and an inspiring program that highlighted both the struggles and the strength of the ALS community. Funds raised go directly toward patient and family services, community outreach, and critical research initiatives.

“Raising $550,000 is a true testament to the support we have from the community and the passion everyone has for this cause,” CEO of ALS Arizona Taryn Norley said.

Guests heard firsthand from Kelly McDermid and Matt Mahle, two individuals currently living with ALS who shared stories of resilience.

Sports broadcasters Ron Wolfley and Paul Calvisi also joined the stage, while Dr. Robert Bowser provided powerful insights into emerging research – including advances in Neuralink, a brain implant technology that may offer communication support for ALS patients in the future.

Creations in Cuisine took home the award for Best Bite of the night, impressing attendees with a braised short rib and smoked shrimp dish paired with bourbon cheddar potatoes and tamarind chili BBQ sauce - but the event wasn’t just about indulgence, it was about impact.

With yearly costs for ALS care averaging $250,000 per patient, events like Bite Nite play a vital role in providing accessible equipment and services, most of which ALS Arizona offers free of charge through its programs and equipment loan closet. To learn more, visit alsaz.org.
