Now that the season is changing, it's time you start putting in TLC to look good for the holidays.  Here's how you can battle bad hair days.

It happens to the best of us…bad hair days.  They’re inevitable, horrible, and seems to haunt us at the worst of times.  Yep, there’s nothing sexy about a doozy do, and according to Dove, you’re not the only one experiencing such down days.

The beauty brand recently surveyed 1,000 women ages 18-65 only to find unfortunate results.

Get this: only 7% said they really love their hair, and obviously luscious locks are sincerely craved considering 45% felt their hair routine is more important than eating breakfast.  (Really?!)  It’s not very surprising 67% said their hair has "a mind of its own," and because of that mind, 20% admitted to skipping a social function because their do didn’t do them justice.

So taking into account 35% of women said they’d spend more time on their hair than get extra sleep, I thought I’d kick off the season with fabulous hair tips.  (Note: now that Halloween’s over, it’s time to gear up for looking gorgeous at holiday get-togethers.)

According to a handful of hair stylists, the first step to healthier hair is regular haircuts.  Yes, you’ll somewhat be surrendering your length, but at the same time, you’ll be ridding your locks from split ends.

Next, refrain from over-processing.  If you’re one of those people that match their hair-color with every season, think again.  Bid farewell to bleach blond summers and rich red winters…too many shades too frequently leads to damage and dryness.  Consider sticking to a shade close to your natural color.

Another tip it to use salon products.  Truth be told, I’m guilty of buying on-sale generic brands, but apparently I need to invest more dinero in hair products.  According to some stylists, “cheaper” products contain alcohol that ends up drying out your hair.  That’s why it’s suggested you start saving for more quality shampoos, conditioners, and shines.

And here’s one none of us will like…back off the heat.  In other words, ditch the curler or flat iron whenever you can.  Despite possible denial, daily ironing dries and fries your hair, but of course it’s just unrealistic to break up with your utensils for good.  So to make things less worse, use a low temperature and heat protecting spray.

Next, give your hair some TLC.  You invest in manis and pedis; why not treat your hair to a little love?  There are many conditioning treatments you can do yourself, making this kind of pampering not too pricey.

As for hair rules to live by, here it goes.  Don’t brush wet hair…comb it kindly instead.  Don’t twirl your locks around your fingers…it causes breakage.  Don’t wear tight ponytails…do it lose so it doesn’t tear your hair.  Before you blow-dry, towel dry.  And when you blow dry, aim the dryer down.  For the ultimate pizzazz, make shine serum your BFF…it keeps your split ends sealed.  And of course, eat right, drink water, and exercise…all these things stimulate hair growth and healthiness.
