salad

Gorman says your salad should consist of arugula and spinach—ditch the iceberg lettuce; there’s simply no nutritional value.

Top it off with fruits and veggies galore—that will score your bikini body fiber-enriched antioxidants.

You can also add cheese--sparingly!  Gorman suggests using feta—but no more than an ounce per serving. You can also trade in those croutons for non-candied, heart-healthy walnuts or almonds.

Ok, you knew it was coming…here’s the buzz kill.

One tablespoon of regular salad dressing can be 80 calories, and we tend to pack on that preferred topping.  Just think--you can end up with 200+ calories of dressing alone on a salad YOU thought was healthy!  Moral of the story: bid farewell to your beloved ranch or fatty blue cheese.  Gorman says create a dressing of your own consisting of fresh-squeezed lemon, oil, and vinegar.

So what to choose when washing down your meal?  Let’s start with alcohol, as you know those spring and summer parties are around the corner.

Gorman says you can still enjoy a little booze—but only light beers allowed.  She also suggests opting for wine—it’s decently low in calories and has some nutritional value.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you’ll also be saying “sayonara” to those savvy drinks…no more calorie filled margaritas or mixed pleasures.

And here’s a tip, toast to a strong drink.  Gorman says the less “mixers” added, the fewer calories you’ll gulp.  (Salud!  You can have a shot of tequila!)

But if you prefer to skip cocktail hour, do NOT select a soda.

Gorman says Americans downed more than 50 gallons of soda last year--a big contribution to our overweight society.  That’s because a 20 ounce pop has 240 calories, so two sodas a day can equal nearly 500 calories; and that’s problematic because Gorman says an extra 500 calories a day, equals a pound gained per week.

Speaking of calories, in order to actually lose weight, Gorman says you need to shave 500 calories a day off your regular diet.

Her biggest tip: keep a food diary. Turns out studies show people who keep a diet journal lose twice as much weight than those who don’t.

Now you can consider yourself one step closer to that beautiful bathing suit body.
