Go to their show and they say you’re bound to smell some ganja in the air. In fact, the boys of Slightly Stoopid boast about their pro-marijuana stance.

“We love it, that’s all I have to say,” said Slightly Stoopid guitarist/singer, Miles Doughty.

Slightly Stoopid’s Miles Doughty says their concerts are “dope,” and you can take a hit for yourself. That’s because the six-person San Diego boy-band is headlining at the 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open Bird’s Nest.

“Expect madness, expect a lot of madness!” said Doughty.

It’s not the first time the guys are bringing their So-Cal sounds to Scottsdale. They played at the Bird’s Nest a few years ago, and they’re coming back for more.

“When we did it a couple years ago, the crowd was going off, the party was great, and we just had fun.”

The Ocean Beach, California band brings fans a “chill” mixture of reggae, rock, a little punk, blues, and hip-hop. Childhood buddies Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald formed Slightly Stoopid in 1995, when the boys were still in high school. The duo was soon discovered by Sublime front-man Bradley Nowell, who signed them to his label, Skunk Records.

“It was awesome someone we idolized gave us a chance.”

Studio albums soon followed, and the San Diego band took-off. They ranked high on Billboard Charts, formed their own label, and toured all over the country.

“We’ve played with all the Marley brothers. We’ve played with Dave Mathews, Snoop Dogg, Cyprus Hill; it’s pretty much a dream come true.”

The boys of Slightly Stoopid say they’re living their dream, touring roughly 200 days a year for the past ten years, but Doughty finds time to coach high school wrestling. He’s also a father of one, and husband to his childhood girlfriend. However, nothing holds this 33 year-old back from singing about what he so strongly believes in. The musician hopes to spread the message to Arizonans that there is nothing wrong with a little high.

“I don’t take any pills ever. If I feel bad, I take my little at-home remedies.”

The controversy of legalizing marijuana lingers over Arizona and across the country, but Doughty says people should open their mind to the whole idea. He says times are changing, and welcoming some green could potentially generate green and boost our economy.

“In California alone it would generate nearly $2 billion a year, and that’s just a rough estimate.”

While the So-Cal musicians sing about getting stoned, Doughty says you’ll enjoy their product even if you‘re anti-pot.

“The fans come out and it’s like a release for them. They know they’ll have a good time, and the show’s going to be nuts.”

He guarantees a good time for Bird's Nest party-goers, and hopes to provide the crowd with a high they’ll never forget.

You can catch Slightly Stoopid at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Bird’s Nest Friday, February 4, 2011.
