Meet local artist Andrew Pielage, an amazing photographer and gallery owner based in Phoenix.
He specializes in architecture, landscapes and endurance running photography, which has taken him around the world capturing beautiful imagery for the last 15 years. Pielage says was fueled by “Constant desert travel, I believe, created the roots of my artistic soul in classical landscape photography.” When asked about his work and creative process Pielage stated, “I have grown into creating new progressive ways of capturing and processing classical landscape scene’s as well as combining and adapting those fundamental techniques into a variety of other subjects.”
Pielage is known for his breathtaking images of The David and Gladys Wright House in Arcadia, a favorite subject for the artist who has followed the work of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. His architect has even helped the artist to utilize new photographic techniques and equipment, including a tilt-shift lens as well as Photoshop where he captures two images of the room combining them together resulting in the final image.
The artist has traveled to five different states and photographed 15 Frank Lloyd Wright properties and his goal is to “photograph as many Frank Lloyd Wright properties as he can, an impressive goal considering there are over 500 around the world”. Recently his brilliant work from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation was highlighted on local radio program KJZZ we he spoke in depth about his experiences, travels, and photography.
His work has been published internationally both in print and online and in 2015 Apple World Gallery chose his photograph for the “ #shotoniphone6 campaign, which was used in a major marketing campaign around the world. In addition to his own photography he is currently a contributing photographer for CNN, Phoenix New Times and the Scottsdale Cultural Council, as well as a photography Instructor at Taliesin West and a contributing photographer for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. He has years of experience as a freelance photographer working with a variety of subjects and locations in addition to receiving a Bachelors of Science degree from North Arizona University.
He has exhibited his work throughout the state and he currently has work featured in “Focus” at {9} The Gallery on view through March 3rd and is located at 1229 Grand Avenue, Phoenix. Pielage also owns and operates Drive-Thru Gallery, asmall photography gallery located in the Roosevelt Row Arts district downtown located at 918 N. 6th Street, Phoenix. Hosting new local photographers each month with receptions every First Friday and Third Friday from 6-10pm, this is a must see gallery! The next exhibition is “Arizona Through the Lens” the solo exhibition of Gerry Groeber opening March 4th on view through March 20th.
