On Saturday, September 26, local leaders, first responders and Scottsdale neighbors will trade their usual roles for jerseys when the fourth annual Community All-Stars RIM 2 RIM Charity Basketball Game takes the court to support local youth.
The family-friendly event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new Bob & Renee Parsons Gymnasium inside the Steve & Maria Sanghi Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. Located on the Tonalea Middle School campus, the new branch serves as a gathering place for children and teens in South Scottsdale. Presented through a partnership between Scottsdale Community All-Stars, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale and Blue Zones Project Scottsdale, RIM 2 RIM combines a charity basketball game with a community gathering designed to celebrate the people who show up for Scottsdale’s young people.
“This game is about more than basketball,” says Christian Sanft, chief operating officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale. “It is a chance for kids to see the people who lead, protect and serve their community show up for them in a fun and meaningful way. The energy in the gym is incredible, but the lasting impact comes from the opportunities those dollars create for young people after the game is over.”
Proceeds from this year’s game will support programming at the Steve & Maria Sanghi Branch, where young people can participate in academic support, sports, leadership development, arts, technology and mentoring. The programs give children and teens a place to build confidence, explore their interests and connect with caring adults during the hours after school. RIM 2 RIM is the signature fundraiser for Scottsdale Community All-Stars, an Arizona 501(c)(3) nonprofit that brings together residents, businesses and local leaders to support youth programs and other charitable causes.
Previous RIM 2 RIM proceeds have helped replace the gym floor at the Virginia G. Piper Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, refresh the game room at the Mary Ellen & Robert McKee Branch, send four students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy and provide soccer equipment for Partners for Paiute’s after-school soccer program at Hirsch Academy.
This year’s event will include plenty of ways for families to get involved beyond cheering from the stands. Attendees can participate in an on-site blood drive, connect with fresh-food resources at the Desert Mission Mobile Farm Stand and check out the Swysh Den Activation.
