On October 15, the Carlos Page Studio & Gallery is opening for its first fully public season. Located in Cave Creek Arizona, the gallery will have a full events program, multiple artists, and a vision for what the gallery is meant to become. The gallery’s founder, Carlos Page, is an Argentinian-born sculptor with 30 years and counting in his art career. Carlos developed his career by extensively traveling the United States, while participating with his work in a myriad of art shows from coast to coast.
While Carlos has been running a metal studio since 2014, it's so far been open by appointment only, with the exception of one end-of-season public gathering. Carlos designed, built and shaped the compound and landscape by hand over the years since, the same hand that drives his sculpture, applied to the landscape. Visitors remark on the quality appearance of the landscape, and how cared for the studio feels. Carlos wanted the space to feel meditative, somewhere where you can pause and take in the whole process. The area is a stunning building of monumental scale with an urban vibe surrounded by nature.
“It’s a place to contemplate or relax a little bit, and pause, and experience the wonder that we are experiencing because of the wonder of creation and creative process. They can relax and enjoy the memories,” Page said.
This is the opening of a season that runs through Hidden in the Hills in November and through the Scottsdale arts calendar March. And it's the beginning of something longer: the Carlos Page Gallery & Studio as a relational, event-centered gathering place for makers and collectors. Carlos said, “Every year, every time someone purchases something from me, it’s a connection. I want people to understand when they come here that this is something really real.”
At 58 years old, the completion of the building coincided with something even more major - the birth of his first child - and a pivot in how he understands his work and his life. He is still a sculptor, but he is now also a father, a host, a connector of artists. The Western Contemporary Open House will take place October 15 from 4-7 p.m. This event will feature a selection of new work by featured artists, with wine and hors d’oeuvres.
