One of my fondest fall memories as a child was driving to our local pumpkin patch to select the roundest, orange-est, most-perfect pumpkin of the bunch.

Each Halloween, my siblings and I would spend hours running through rows of the patch, picking and repicking our pumpkins, all the while drafting in our minds the potential designs for our prime pick.

Buckelew Farms is facilitating this same memory-making via its 22nd Annual Pumpkin Festival and Corn Maze. The Festival operated the last four weekends in October and is open on Halloween night.

The Buckelew Farms crew does an exception al job of making the pumpkin selection process a memorable experience. Eager pumpkin pickers are driven to and from the pumpkin patch on a tractor-drawn wagon and assisted with getting their picks safely back to their rides.

Of particular note is the farm’s eleven acre corn maze equipped with an original design different from that of last year. This year’s corn maze features more than four miles of winding trails that span over the eleven acres. The entire field forms two distinct mazes, each taking approximately an hour to complete. Checkpoints are scattered thoughout the mazes to help guide guests and gage success. While the mazes are open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there are also open to conquer Friday and Saturday nights and on Halloween night from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Adding to the farm’s spook factor this time of year, Buckelew has incorporated “Terror in the Corn,” a haunted aspect that will adorn certain areas of the maze. The Haunted cornfield opens after dark, around 6:30 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays in October and will also be open Halloween evening.

The festival will include other accouterments including an arts and crafts tent, festival games, feeding aminals at the 4-H Zoo and a pedal cart race track. And what would October be without pumpkin pie? Burger, corn on the cob, Indian fry bread and yes, pumpkin pie can also be enjoyed onsite at Buckelew farms.
