The FBR Open is back this year and the question is “Why do we go to this event more so than any other in the Valley?”

Do we love crowds? Most people, including me, would say no. FBR attracts more than half a million attendees each year.

Do we love parking far away and then taking a shuttle bus? Or if you have valet, who wants to wait 10 to 15 minutes to get your car back? Nope, not me.

What about going to a tent called the Bird’s Nest to drink cold beer outside when it is usually cold and damp inside? I would rather be at home.

Great place to get out with the kids? When have you ever taken kids somewhere they must be quiet outside on a grassy area? Not the best place for children.

Now I forgot, if you are single is this where you want to meet your mate? Not feeling it again. So many people try a little too hard. High heels and golf just don’t seem to go together.

Last year we asked many people to name five golfers playing and not one person could name five pros playing in the FBR, but they all said Tiger Woods who of course has not been here for quite a while.

We all love the FBR Open so much because it is a well done event that brings together our community. Most of us are from larger cities and are used to having a gathering spot or communal event, like Chicago’s Taste of Chicago or Milwaukee’s Summerfest. Most cities have an annual event to look forward to, and this is ours and we love it.

Thanks to all the volunteers and Thunderbirds that put on “the greatest show on grass.” See you there—and this year we will have our cameras out and posting online each day about what to wear or not to wear at the FBR Open. All the Best!
