Getting a college degree has always been the crème de la crème of how to succeed in life. This can be challenging to reconcile for many college graduates who are out of work and struggling to find a job more than just working in retail or food service. Sometimes, what they are missing in their quest for education is career coaching and learning different ways to put their education to use in earning them an income. While most of their time might’ve been spent enjoying the nightlife, once college is over, it’s time to think about putting that degree to use.

A Bachelor of Arts in psychology for instance won’t qualify you to be a therapist, but it could give you behavioral insights that would help a training department implement more effective resources for corporate employees. Here are additional ways to look at your education and create a career plan that works for you.

Biology Degree

Let’s say you got a biology degree, but decided not to go to medical school or continue your education. But you’d like to do more than just flip burgers. Your education is still extremely valuable. You have a good understanding of biological processes, research, and running experiments. In fact, a biology degree could qualify you to teach students, to write scientific articles, and to write and edit textbooks. There are people who use their science degrees by writing blog posts or simplifying scientific content for the average reader. You don’t need to work in a lab after college if you don’t want to.

Psychology Degree

A lot of people get degrees in psychology, but not all of them go on to become therapists. That’s okay. Psychology is used in so many industries. Did you know that advertising and marketing leverage the principles of psychology to be successful? They learn how colors impact mood and perception. They discover the kinds of things that people like and are attracted to based on their other preferences. Psychology can be used to be very good in marketing. And while a second degree could be useful, there are countless other ways to learn marketing after college without ever paying university fees again. Classes on Udemy and other online platforms use subject matter experts to teach on topics that can help you get a leg up in any industry.

Theatre Degree

Those poor theater students are often mocked by the world. But the good news is, they learn critical skills that can be transferred to other industries if they are willing to think outside the black box. Musical theater colleges often try to share these career options with students so they know there are alternatives to being on the big stage. Think about it, musical theater gives you confidence, motivation, memory skills, musical skills, and so much more. You experience the ups and downs that come with landing the big parts and with getting a role in the background. You learn leadership if you direct any of the plays, and those skills are invaluable. You can use them to create online brands, to lead a company, to be voice actors, and to share your knowledge with the world.

Art Degree

Artists never have to starve again. Nor do they have to be career waiters unless they want it. The art industry is booming. Artists have roles in major brands, they can create valuable NFT’s, they can become graphic designers, book illustrators, and more. The internet has opened doors than never existed before, and if artists are willing to try different things, there is a career opportunity out there for all of them. Think of the books, the home décor, and the beautiful things just waiting for an artist to create.

Business Degree

Contrary to popular belief you don’t need to own a business if you get a business degree. You might be better suited to help a company find the best tools for their IT needs. Perhaps you want to manage a store, but don’t want the responsibility of owning it. Or you really love people and selling, and so something like car sales or real estate is more up your alley. Getting a business degree opens a lot of opportunities. Look at business trends and think about the different skills you gain beyond the different topics you learn about. Any degree would qualify you to be a writer and you can create content around any topic where you have specific knowledge.
