Dazzling ceramics created by artist Phoenix artist Irma Sanchez, which highlight her love for the Sonoran Desert and Phoenixare are currently on display at the Hive Gallery.

Sanchez has spent the last year preparing for her solo exhibition at the Hive Gallery in downtown Phoenix entitled A Ceramic Survey:  A Humble Ode to My Desert. This exhibition showcases a new body of work by Sanchez of twenty ceramic slabs that are inspired by the Sonoran Desert environment. She has created intriguing new work that utilizes brilliant colors, interesting textures and fantastic patterns while continuing to share poignant messages with her viewers.

A native Phoenician, Sanchez creates captivating and vibrant mixed media artworks inspired by her home state. Her artwork takes on various forms, such as typography, jewelry, ceramics, paintings, clothing, and photography just to name a few. Traditionally trained in the arts Sanchez received a Bachelors of Arts Degree and she enjoys teaching art to children and adults offering classes in various mediums around the valley.

Sanchez was the recipient of a 2012 Contemporary Forum Artist Grant where she had the honor of exhibiting her work at the Phoenix Art Museum. She has also exhibited her work extensively in the valley including exhibitions at Bragg’s Pie Factory, the Coe House, the monOrchid and The Hive, just to name a few. Her artwork has been featured in numerous print and online publications including YabYum Music & Arts, AZ Central, Visual Art Source and Phoenix New Times.

There is still plenty of time to see Sanchez’s latest work Ceramic Survey:  A Humble Ode to My Desert at The Hive Gallery open Wednesday-Friday from 11 am-6 pm and Saturday from 11 am - 5 pm.
