Take10Cheech

Take 10: The Past Decade of Collecting by Cheech Marin, which presents the diverse and extensive collection of Chicano art. Entertainer and arts advocate, Cheech Marin has acquired a comprehensive collection features an amazing array of artists and mediums with 42 works in oil, acrylic, watercolor and glass by 33 of the most significant Chicano artists. Highlights of the exhibition include a wonderful portrait of a crowned Marin standing in front of the ocean flanked by seagulls by Eloy Torrez, as well as a mixed media glass sculpture by San Diego based duo Einar and Jamez De La Torre titled Oxymoderna that stole the show utilizing glass while incorporating intense and emotionally charged images.This exhibition is on view in the Dobson Main Gallery and will be on view through January 24, 2016.

Explore the brilliant photography of Pedro E. Guerrero featured in “Yonder Peasant”, showcasing fascinating artist portraits and idyllic mid-century modern Architectural gems. He is originally from Mesa and is considered an icon of photography possessing such a mastery of the camera while retaining a refreshing voice. His unique perspectives of iconic architectural masterpieces are breathtaking while his gives us fascinating glimpse into the lives of many iconic artists. The intimacy that Guerreo was able to capture with famed artists was unprecedented works such as "I'm an Architect" a portrait of Frank Lloyd Wright that is both intimate and powerful. There is still time to experience Guerrero work for yourself since this amazing exhibition will be on view until January 17, 2106 in the SRP Gallery.

The South Gallery is currently featuring “Ecosystem” the striking work of Bradley Hart, who is a New York-based Canadian artist that was the 2015 proposal winner. Hart creates unique artwork by injecting bubble wrap with acrylic paint resulting in pixelated photorealistic images. According to MCAM “By using a mass-produced product and repurposing his syringes and dried paint, Hart’s work is an environmental commentary about society's excessive use and dependence on disposable materials.” The opening reception for this exhibition will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 7-10pm with the artist in attendance, live music and refreshments.
