Bentley Gallery kicked off the New Year hosting big events for ESPN and the College Football Playoffs and they welcome a new Frida Kahlo exhibition!
"MIRROR MIRROR: Rare Photographs of Frida Kahlo" opens at Bentley Gallery this Thursday, January 14th where they will be hosting a reception from 6-9pm free for the public. “Mirror Mirror: Rare Photographs of Frida Kahlo,” features a striking collection of 20 rare photographs of the iconic artist Frida Kahlo by an impressive list of 20th century photographers. The list highlights twelve distinguished photographers including Lucienne Bloch, Lola Álvarez Bravo, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Imogen Cunningham, Fritz Henie, Guillermo Kahlo, Leo Matiz, Nickolas Muray and Carl Van Vechten.
Often photographed by her famous friends and peers, Kahlo became a symbol of an Artist, the Revolution and Mexico. This exhibition offers a striking selection of Kahlo portraits, giving viewers a unique opportunity to experience these vintage photographs that continue to fuel the mystic and celebrity status that Kahlo retains to this day. These photographs were originally apart of the Throckmorton Fine Art exhibition “Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life” held last summer which featured over 50 photographs. The photographs we have chosen to feature in the exhibition capture Kahlo’s essence", states Bentley Gallery Director John Reyes who goes on to say, “Frida Kahlo’s iconic beauty was evident from her self-portraits, but it was also captured through the lens of these legendary photographers”.
This exhibition coincides with the current Heard Museum exhibition titled Frida Kahlo-Her Photos that showcases a diverse selection of over 240 photographs and personal items, giving patrons a glimpse into her life through her photographs through.
