Fall is upon us and it is a beautiful time of year to get out and explore the arts in Old Town Scottsdale where there is never a shortage of art to enjoy with all of its galleries, public art, and museums!

Top of our list and always presenting exciting exhibitions is the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale at 7374 E. Second Street. This must see art destination is surrounded by a lush park and gardens, tranquil fountains, amazing public art, local restaurants and much more. The SMoCA museum admission is only $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 15 are free. Every Thursday the museum offers complementary admission as well as Friday and Saturday evenings after 5pm. 

Fall SMoca Fun

Right now visitors can explore the captivating exhibition of Kelly Richardson: Tales on the Horizon currently on view as well as James Marshall’s commissioned murals located in the entrance, gift shop and lounge. Don’t miss this week’s Author Talk with Nicholas de Monchaux on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2pm at SMoCA. Listen to the story behind the engineering of the Apollo spacesuit in his book Spacesuit: Fashioning Apollo. This fascinating story takes you from Christian Dior to cyborgs, then to the 18th century androids to JFK. Nicholas de Monchaux is a Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley and author.

Up next at the SMoCA is the Fall Opening Celebration taking place next Friday, October 2nd from 7-9pm free to the public. Join museum curators and featured artists at they celebrate the opening of three new exhibitions Architecture + Art Chris Fraser: Looking Back, Bruce Munro: Ferryman’s Crossing, and Kelly Richardson: Tales on the Horizon. The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts features amazing public art as well as the wonderful Young@Art Gallery. The Young@Art Gallery is hosting the opening reception of their latest exhibition Archilumen from 6:00-8:00p on October 2, 2015.

Lastly don’t miss the final days of Grimanesa Amorós Golden Waters at the Scottsdale Waterfront courtesy of Scottsdale Public Art.
