Thursday means it’s time for the weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk, which offers a vast selection of galleries showcasing local and national artwork, art studios, public art, and museums, where visitors can come and enjoy artist demonstrations, live music, wine and food samplings, and more!

Don’t miss this perfect opportunity to explore the local shops, excellent bars and local restaurants that Old Town Scottsdale has to offer. The Scottsdale ArtWalk is located along Main Street and Marshall Way in Scottsdale and visitors can ride the Scottsdale Trolley for free until 9 pm every Thursday!

Some highlights this week include Tilt Gallery currently “Through the Lens of Desire” a continuation of the “Cropped” series by Kris Sanford showcasing beautiful images, works of fiction focusing on individuals pictured that serve as characters in a search to uncover lost stories of life, family, and love. Gebert Contemporary currently featuring “Flowers” by John Randall Nelson focusing on botanical vernacular extends beyond science to provocatively touch on the metaphors of romance, fecundity and life cycles. The Walter Art Gallery featuring a special exhibition of a unique art installation by Beth Ames Swartz “A Moving Point of Balance”, which features seven stunning 7x7 foot paintings that present an East Indian chakra.” This installation is both environmental and participatory in nature and chronicles Swartz's experience with the rituals of Native American and East Indian cultures”.

Also be sure to explore the beautiful new Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, which is currently offering a wonderful selection of incredible exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach. With several inaugural exhibitions including Confluence of Cultures in the American West: A Selection of Contemporary Artists, Will James: Cowboy Artist and Author, Courage and Crossroads: A Visual Journey through the Early American West, The A.P. Check out the SMoCA latest exhibitions two installations from Postcommodity Promoting a More Just, Verdant and Harmonious Resolution (2011) and Pollination (2015). Postcommodity is a transdisciplinary American Indian arts collective, which questions common national narratives and the commodification of nature, history and culture. Also on view is Afghan War Rugs: The Modern Art of Central Asia, which offers a beautiful collection of contemporary rugs from modern day Afghanistan  “collection of rugs updates traditional floral and geometric patterning with contemporary images of tanks, soldiers, helicopters, world maps and political portraits. Plus have a little fun in the SMoCA Lounge currently featuring James Marshall’s Spring Break, which includes games, movies and activities. SMoCA is located at 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale 85251. General admission to the museum is $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 15 are free. Every Thursday the museum offers complementary admission as well as Friday and Saturday evenings after 5pm.
