Looking for something different on a Friday afternoon, head to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art  (SMoCA) on November 7th for “Lunch & Lit” at 12pm.

Hear SMoCA Associate Director, Curator and Educator Sara Cochran speak about John Le Carre book "Absolute Friends". The cost is just $10 or free if you’re a SMoCA Member. Read the book before hand or not, but do come and enjoy a delightful lunch and engaging conversation in SMoCA Lounge for their version of a book club. Have you had a chance to meet the newly appointed Associate Director and Curator, Sara Cochran? Previously she served as Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Phoenix Art Museum and she received her Doctorate from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London and her Masters from the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris IV. She provides such perspective and cultural insight based on her fieldwork in contemporary art and should prove for to be an engaging and entertaining lunch!

"Lunch & Lit" is the perfect opportunity to listen and meet her while she hosts and discusses the novel. "Absolute Friends", an exciting espionage novel that is an “epic tale of loyalty and betrayal spans the lives of two friends from the riot-torn West Berlin of the 1960s to the grimy looking-glass of Cold War Europe to the present day of terrorism and new alliances.” Chosen for its complementary themes which are currently addressed in the SMoCA's exhibition, "Covert Operations: Investigating the Known Unknowns." This visually stunning exhibition examines the vehicle “the complicated relationship between freedom and security, individuals and the state, fundamental extremism and democracy.” Come explore this captivating exhibition on view at SMOCA from September 28, 2014 until January 11, 2015.

The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale 85251. General admission to the museum is $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under 15 are free. Every Thursday the museum offers complementary admission as well as Friday and Saturday evenings after 5pm.
