A new solo exhibition is captivating art lovers at Cosanti Originals Gallery in Paradise Valley. Running now through April, Mesa-based artist Talia Dudley presents “SHROUD,” a collection of paintings born from her recent artist residency at Arcosanti.
Dudley credits the residency’s extraordinary environment for shaping the exhibition’s theme. “The unique environment at Arcosanti had a direct influence on my work, as I’ve been exploring the concept of hidden rooms,” she explained. The spacious studio there inspired Dudley to create some of her largest canvases to date, reaching up to 80 by 60 inches, resulting in a body of work that feels monumental and intimate.
“Arcosanti is a very unique place whose architecture leaves an impression on everyone who visits,” said Ray Paskus, archivist at The Cosanti Foundation. “After seeing Talia’s work, we were eager to see how time spent here would inform her distinctive style.”
Dudley’s work has been gaining attention across Arizona and beyond. Most recently, she exhibited at On the Edge Gallery in Scottsdale, and her pieces have also been featured at Found:Re Contemporary, Five15 Arts, the Tempe Center for the Arts, and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. She has held solo shows in Phoenix and Las Vegas and exhibited widely throughout Arizona, Nevada, and California.
“My work focuses on the architecture of the unconscious and subconscious mind,” Dudley states in her artist’s statement. “I explore this through long gestural strokes juxtaposed with bold mark-making to create disoriented mindscapes. Layering materials both lightly and heavily, I construct spaces that evoke an unfocused, almost hidden world. The mind fascinates me because so much is concealed: how we process emotion and trauma, what memories lie beneath the surface, and what the unseen aspects of ourselves reveal.”
The public is invited to experience “SHROUD” firsthand at Cosanti Originals, culminating in a closing reception on March 27 from 12-4 p.m. - a chance to meet Dudley and engage with the immersive work that transforms hidden thoughts into tangible form. Learn more at taliajdudley.com.
