Meet local artist Irma Sanchez who was born and raised in Phoenix AZ and who creates colorful and captivating mixed media artworks inspired by her home state.

Sanchez often creates intriguing political artwork reflecting current events, including postcards, flags created like patchwork-like quilts, billboards, stickers and most recently ceramic titles that are artist is using to spread positive messages located around Phoenix.

Sanchez is constantly making artwork utilizing unique color palettes, interesting use of patterns and wonderful use of texture while sharing poignant messages with her viewers. Her artwork takes on various forms, such as typography, jewelry, ceramics, paintings, clothing, public art and more working with a variety of mediums including clay, masks made of paper-mache and royal cream icing, paint, and photography just to name a few.

Sanchez was the recipient of a 2012 Contemporary Forum Artist Grant where she had the honor of exhibiting her work at the Phoenix Art Museum. She has also exhibited her work extensively in the valley including exhibitions at Bragg’s Pie Factory, The Hive and in March she was included in the raved about invitational in Shade Gallery at the monOrchid titled FEMINISM TODAY. Most recently this past November her work was showcased in the group exhibition titled “TEN: MODERN ABSTRACT” in Shade Gallery at the monOrchid where she was able to showcase her latest photography series and a mesmerizing royal icing creation stealing the show!

In addition to her own work she enjoys teaching art to children and adults offering classes in various mediums. Sanchez was traditionally trained in the arts with a Bachelors of Arts Degree. Her artwork has been featured in numerous print and online publications including YabYum Music and Arts, AZ Central, Phoenix New Times and Visual Art Source.
