Meet local self-taught photographer, Johnny Kerr born and raised in the West Valley, he captures striking imagery through his lens favoring to work with black and white photography. Kerr holds a Bachelors Degree in Media Arts from the Art Institute of Phoenix, as well as A Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix. He began pursuing photography in 2011 after gaining extensive experience in the graphic design world where Kerr stated, “My experiences as a working graphic designer, along with my appreciation for minimalist design, continue to be a major influence on my vision as a fine art photographer”. He resides in Phoenix with his lovely wife and young daughter where he continues to pursue freelance photography and graphic design projects, in addition to his teaching career.

He has exhibited his artwork in Phoenix and the West Valley in both solo and group exhibitions a various venues across the valley, most recently with RAW Natural Born Artists at the Monarch Theater, the Irish Cultural Center, Gallery Glendale and the West Valley Art Museum. Kerr has had his work published in national photography magazines, he recently served as a judge for the Global Photography Awards and most recently in September Kerr was awarded several awards by the 2015 International Photography Awards (IPA).

His current series of abstract architecture photography is titled Abstractions, showcasing a beautiful selection of black and white photography focusing on the simplicity and elegance of great design. Capturing his surroundings with a refreshing new perspective while creating photographs that emphasize his love of Graphic design. Kerr’s self-published a book of the work from this series also titled Abstractions released in early 2015. Kerr said “I truly ecstatic about having the opportunity to have my first solo exhibition of my photography at the reputable Bokeh Gallery at the monOrchid and grateful for the tremendous community exposure my work has been receiving this month.” This is Kerr’s debut solo exhibition at the monOrchid where he is showcasing his Abstraction series on display in Bokeh Gallery until October 31st, 2015.
