See beauty through the eyes of the city’s youth. Tucson’s Recreational Equipment Inc. and the Udall Foundation are presenting a photo exhibit featuring photography taken by local middle schoolers.

Tucson REI and the Morris K. and Stewart L. Udall Foundation recently announced that the open house will feature images taken by middle-school youth from Boys & Girls Clubs during trips to national parks and surrounding. Tucson youth who participated in the program will be featured.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, October 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Tucson REI located at 160 W. Wetmore Road. A brief presentation of the program will begin at 11:15 a.m. followed by time to speak with program representatives and youth participants. The photos will remain on display in the store’s community room (on the 2nd floor) through the month of October. The event fee is free and open to the public.

The Stewart L. Udall Parks in Focus Program says its mission is to connect under resourced youth to nature through photography, yet during action-packed excursions to public lands, the program is able to do so much more. Parks in Focus combines tried-and-true photography and environmental education lessons with active, hands-on outdoor adventures guided by passionate and knowledgeable leaders who push personal boundaries and create community. The Udall Foundation is currently seeking both in-kind and monetary donations for the program. One hundred and twenty middle-school Club members are expected to participate in the program this year.

REI got involved with the program because it partners with local organizations that help people experience and conserve the outdoors through education, volunteerism and its grants program.

The Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation is an independent federal agency located in Tucson, Arizona. The Foundation carries on the legacies of both men through a number of programs, among them, education programs designed to foster a passion and commitment for the nation’s natural resources in the next generation. Stewart L. Udall Parks in Focus is one such program. Since the program’s inception, approximately 400 youth have participated.
