Kathy Shayna Shocket has the inside view on the stories that make headlines.
We now have a sneak peek at the major film based on the tragic story of the 19 firefighters who lost their lives in Arizona’s Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013. It’s called “Only the Brave” and stars some major Hollywood A-listers.
Well-respected actors Josh Brolin and Jeff Bridges are among the leading cast of the film portraying Arizona’s Granite Mountain Hotshots. (FYI, the movie was filmed last year in Santa Fe, New Mexico, not in Arizona, where it actually took place.)
Actors Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Andie Macdowell and Taylor Kitsch also star in the film. The movie focuses on the backgrounds of the actual firefighters lives and their camaraderie.
We also know there’s a famous scene re-living the moments when Christopher MacKenzie's camera captured the Granite Mountain Hotshots as they built a human pyramid in front of a large juniper tree. They built that pyramid just a few days prior to being called to the fatal Yarnell fire.
Director Joseph Kosinski says that the reason he wanted to do the story is because it’s told from the perspective of the firefighter at the top, superintendent Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin), and the crew's new recruit Brendan McDonaugh (Miles Teller)
"Only the Brave." is now slated for Oct. 20 by Sony Pictures. That was changed from its original schedule date of Sept 22 by Lionsgate. ( Prior titles of the film were “No Exit” and “Granite Mountain”) A disagreement between Lionsgate and production company Black Label Media saw the distribution rights change to Sony. Lionsgate will now retain international rights in select countries for the film.
Stay tuned.
