Cullum Homes, the Valley’s premier custom home builder has begun construction of 40 new luxury homes at Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley.

For nearly 50 years the Iconic Valley Hotel Property, known as Mountain Shadow, hosted celebrities, sports stars, and tourists in the shadow of Camelback Mountain. But it all fell silent in 2005 when the beloved Mountain Shadows Resort in the heart of Arizona’s toniest town closed.

Now, with the old structures demolished, activity is beginning on the iconic hotel site. The Village at Mountain Shadows, a $100 million project on the old resort’s eastern edge, is now under construction. Cullum Homes closed on the 10-acre property July 2nd for $23 million.

About 75 people, including Rod and Kim Cullum, Paradise Valley Mayor Scott LeMarr, Mayor Elect Michael Collins, town council members and P.V. residents, attended a ground breaking celebration on September 25th.

It was the first sign of life neighbors and the town has been hungry to see after so many years of false starts and frustration. The Paradise Valley Town Council paved the way for progress after a unanimous public approval last year to bring a new resort and residences to the 68-acre site, as well as preserving the finest executive golf course in Arizona.

“It is a privilege to be the exclusive home builder for this rare and significant property in the center of Paradise Valley,” said Cullum Homes Owner Rod Cullum. “We have great respect for the historical significance of Mountain Shadows, and are committed to creating distinctive residences that combine the finest craftsmanship with innovative architectural design that is in keeping with the unique character of this property. The luxurious lifestyle opportunity to be offered by The Village at Mountain Shadows is something Cullum Homes is truly excited about, and proud to be a part of.”

The seven custom sites and five floor plans balancing the lots have been designed by renowned Valley architect Mark Candelaria. They boast a soft desert contemporary look and feel to accentuate the spectacular view and resort lifestyle. In a rarity for Arizona homes, basements are being offered including one that serves a dual purpose as a “car bar”. Lifts from the garage can lower the horsepower from above behind the glass walls of the basement creating a unique atmosphere for car lovers.

Homes will range between 3,500 to over 7,000 square feet and be priced between $2 million and $4 million, which will include access to fitness, golf and other resort privileges.

The Village at Mountain Shadows sits on what is arguably the most impressive street in Arizona, adjoining a new resort and sandwiched between the state’s top boutique resort (Sanctuary) and a landmark restaurant, El Chorro. All of this guard-gated, “lock and leave” lifestyle is within walking distance to Camelback Mountain’s two popular hiking trails Scottsdale’s shopping, restaurants, and art galleries are just minutes away.

Cullum Homes has become the Valley’s premier builder of luxury, boutique residential properties with its Silverleaf project and others. There are 19 luxury lots within Silverleaf consisting of villas and cottages. Paradise Reserve at 40th Street & Lincoln is almost sold out and there is an upcoming Cholla Heights project with extraordinary views on the northeast slope of Camelback Mountain.

Reservations for new homes are now being accepted for the Village at Mountain Shadows.  Interested parties may do so by contacting Scott Grigg at Realty Executives at 480.540.5479 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
