“My mom was amazing. If I could balance myself half as much as she did, I’ll be a successful mother.”
Joe and Shanel had daughter #2, Avellina, last year. She says it’s wonderful being married to a major league dad; however, it’s tough to maintain normalcy.
“I often act as a single mom because he’s gone so much. We cherish the times when it’s just us four doing simple things like Sunday dinner.”
While many baseball players get a bad rap for loving “the game” off the field, Shanel says her relationship is rock solid and based on trust.
“You just have to be confident in your relationship. Joe has values.”
She says her hubby is an old soul at heart, and can often be found on the couch watching golf or a movie. They tend to stick around their Chandler neighborhood, but occasionally do date-night at their favorite restaurant, Modern Steak.
“We have a very grounded life. Joe tries to commit 100% to his job, and to our family as well.”
Shanel ditched softball to be a stay-at-home mom, and feels blessed she’s able to do so. She used to go to a lot more D-Backs games, but has since decided to tune into games on the tube because of her two young girls.
“It’s tough bringing the kids.”
The couple also strives to give back to the community that’s been so good to them. They can often be found doing child-related charity work around the Valley.
“We are blessed.”
Yes, the all-star couple is surely blessed. They have fame, fortune, family, and a solid foundation; the duo is truly in baseball bliss.
