HomeFeaturesOn the Scene with Nadine › Babes of Baseball: D-Back Chris Young - Page 2

“I like a girl who is motivated and does her own thing. That turns me on,” said Young.

And boy does he turn some ladies on, figuring he has quite a resume.

Young made his first All-Star team in 2010 while setting career-highs in pretty much every offensive category.

He is one of two players in D-Backs history to hit 20 or more homers and steal 20 or more bases in two seasons; he’s also the only other Major League centerfielder besides Ken Griffey Jr., to collect as many homers and stolen bases at age 24 or younger in his first three years.

Plus, he’s quite a charmer in front of the camera.

Young was a studio analyst for MLB Network during the 2010 postseason.

“My biggest accomplishment is making it to the Major Leagues and playing here as long as I’ve had.”

He gears up for the season on a strict Spring Training schedule.

Work-outs start at 7am and consist of running, hitting, and throwing; but he doesn’t exercise solo.

Every day, Young is joined by his like-brother buddy, right-fielder Justin Upton.

And get this: the two sure share more than one thing in common.

For example, both guys take pride in their style off the field; in fact, who would have thought this athlete is a trendy fashonista?

“I have a closet full of shoes; tennis shoes, casual shoes, dress shoes, everything.”

When he’s not shoe shopping, playing ball, or frequenting Old Town eateries, you can find Young in one of two places; at the golf course or on the couch catching a flick.

“I’m a big movie person. I could probably recite ‘Friday’ by heart.”

But Young’s heart is not set on new releases right now.

Instead, he’s pumped about Spring Training and the upcoming season.

And when this baseball babe goes up to bat, you’ll want to cheer him on; but he has yet to decide what tune he’ll come out to.

“My song will definitely be hip-hop. When you’re walking to the plate you want to hear something that gets you amped up.”

What really gets him amped is running the bases after a bomb hit.

Make sure to catch this D-Back sporting his long-time tradition every time he wows the crowd.

“I kiss my Cross then point to the sky when I hit a home run. It’s something I’ve always done.”
