Everyone needs a good pair of socks. Especially, with cooler climates headed our way Arizona residents need to protect their feet. Socks for Seniors is an annual community service project that aims to do just that. Sock for Seniors volunteers organize collecting new socks to be distributed to elderly in local area nursing homes around the holidays. The program began on Make A Difference Day on Saturday, Oct., 27— the official kick-off of the 2012 Socks For Seniors Campaign—and runs thru Christmas.

In addition to donating a few pairs of socks, here is how you can participate in making sure seniors' feet are nice and toasty during the holiday season.

Host a Sock Drive: It all starts with one person, one box andone location. It’s easy…and all the socks stay in the local Scottsdale area. If you have a nursing home, assisted living center or other senior community in mind for distribution—great! If not, the organization will help connect you with a local senior community for distributing the socks at the end of the sock drive. If you can decorate a box and find a location or locations for boxes, that's all there is to it.
