One-of-a-kind. World-renowned. Stylish. The jewelry alone isn’t what gives one of the Valley’s most prominent high-end jewelry studios its appeal—so does the man behind the unique creations.
Owner of Jewelry by Gauthier and award-winning jewelry designer, Scott Gauthier has combined his passion for gemstones and love of sculpting into opportunities for his clientele to “wear art” for more than 20 years. “There’s an old expression: There’s nothing new under the sun,” Gauthier says. “Well, my inspiration every day is to prove there is.”
Born and raised in Green Bay, Wis., Gauthier recognized his natural talent for design early as a child with his “little rock collection.” While studying art at The University of Wisconsin-Madison, he made and sold jewelry, eventually running his own store in “the northern state” for two years before relocating. He now operates two local shops in Downtown Scottsdale and Kierland Commons.
Gauthier not only handcrafts every piece of jewelry he sells, but he also personally selects each stone. In his thoughtful selections and designs, he challenges himself to “always do something new and exciting.” With a diverse range of baubles, Gauthier’s high-profile clients are able to find expressions of themselves within every piece. His wearable art can even be seen on Kim Cattrall in “Sex and the City,” and it has achieved recognition from the Smithsonian.
Designer isn’t the only important title Gauthier possesses. He is also a husband to wife, Courtney (also known as CoCo), and father to three girls, Noa, 10, and twins Eva and Elle, 6, and a brand new baby boy of 8 months, Grey.
Gauthier could also call himself a philanthropist as his jewelry studios support many community causes and events. He has his own charity, The Gauthier Foundation, which acts as an assistance program to the families of fallen firefighters and police officers. In his free time, Gauthier finds pleasure in his vintage car hobby. He restores and races classic automobiles and even rallies his products at his annual Gauthier Classic.
Passion is the key to the success of each of Gauthier’s endeavors. “I’m very passionate about what I do, and I’m very excited about what I do,” Gauthier says. “I think that shows in my work.” This fervor has molded him into the influential and highly regarded entrepreneur and designer he is today, helping him find success in what he deems to be his “perfect hobby.”
