Odds are if you were driving down the I-10 West towards the direction of Peoria during rush hour last night, you were experiencing heavier traffic than ever before. This is because thousands of people from all around the Valley were driving to the Mumford & Sons concert at the Desert Sky Pavilion.

So why are Mumford & Sons so extraordinary that their concert would result in a sold out show and thousands flocking to the concert in bumper to bumper traffic?

This unique Christian English Folk Rock band has much to offer.  The band began performing in small to moderate venues in the UK and the US attempting to slowly expose the world to their sound. Little did they know they would soon become a sweeping success story almost overnight. Their current album, “Babel”, is making even more of a splash than their debut album “Sigh No More”.  With lyrics so unique and thought provoking, it is nearly impossible for one to listen to them without experiencing an emotional connection with their songs.

As Mumford & Sons reached our city of Phoenix, Arizona, a stop on their US Tour, they did not fail to bring the same vocal perfection one hears on their album. The extra guitar players allotted them to explore an even broader range of their pieces. As well as guitars, the 13 songs and 3 encore songs played throughout the night made use of nearly every bluegrass and folk instrument, from trumpets, to banjos, to mandolins. Keeping the affects simple with no extravagant dancers and little use of flashing lights, Mumford & Sons kept the focus of their performance solely on the beauty of their music.

When Mumford & Sons came on stage and began their opening number, “Babel”, one could feel the energy explode throughout the crowd.  This energy did not cease throughout the night, and the dynamic performance offered over the duration of the night was equal if not better than what one hears on the album.    After performing 3 encores, including one of their first hits “The Cave”, the audience exited the Pavilion, leaving with their musical needs more satisfied than ever.  Even the thousands piled in the back lawn seating throughout the night were left content as Mumford made sure to address all sections throughout the night.

Next time Mumford & Sons make a trip to the Valley, do not miss your chance to first hand experience the incomparable band that is Mumford & Sons.
