Local Restaurant Hosts Election Cocktail Party

With elections happening next Tuesday, it only seems fitting to kick it off with...what else...a political cocktail contest! The Arrogant Butcher will host "Every Sips Counts", which will continue until election day, with a special election night viewing party on November 6 from 4 p.m. to close.
The contest pitches two cocktails against one another in a week-long election process where voters can use their handy ballot to decide the winner. The two tasty libations are Elephant's Never Forget, a refreshing mix of vodka, pomegranate juice...
New Fox Restaurant Concept to Open in Phoenix

Sam Fox has reinvented the status quo of restauranteur with his creations of Arrogant Butcher, Olive & Ivy and Culinary Dropout to name a few. But now, his crew just unveiled a "Coming Soon" sign at the old Ducati and Kawasaki garage and dealership at 7th Street (just south of Montebello in North Central Phoenix), giving neighbors and the community the first glimpse of the restaurants and play space: "The Yard."
Plans include Fox's unique gastro-pub styled Culinary Dropout, a neighborhood Fish House and Oyster Bar, and future local merchants, and plan to open early 2013.

Local Charter School Wins MIT Grant

On October 17, the lives of 23 teenage girls forever changed. High school students in Jessica Horton’s Science, Technology and Society Class at the Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona (GLAAZ) learned at an impromptu school assembly that they were one of only 16 schools selected nationwide (and the only school in Arizona) to receive the 2013 Lemelson-MIT Program InvenTeam grant for $7,500, which enables them to invent a unique drowning prevention device – the “WataWescue.”
Their invention is an inflatable shirt for children, to protect them from near-drowning incidents.
