Description

Beginning January 24-26, 2020 in Phoenix at Symphony Hall and February 1 and 2 at Tucson Music Hall, Puccini’s beloved classic La Bohème returns after a six-year absence. To be an aspiring artist in1830s Paris was to be poor—but happy. When Mimì—portrayed by renowned sopranos Ellie Dehn (San1636 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, Arizona 85004 | 602.266.7464 | www.azopera.orgFrancisco Opera, Metropolitan Opera) and Julie Adams (San Francisco Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre)— enters the poet Rodolfo’s apartment in search of a flame to light her candle, the pair ignite aromance that burns brilliantly through the ages. The passion and struggle of Rodolfo—played by Mario Chang (Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera, 2014 Winner of Plácido Domingo’s “Operalia” internationalopera competition) and Yongzhao Yu (Houston Grand Opera, Wolf Trap Opera)—and his fellow bohemians come to life in Puccini’s timeless masterpiece, one of opera’s most popular and engaging stories. La Bohème will thrill you with its sweeping melodies and its dramatic love story. Conducted by Christopher Allen and directed by David Paul, the strong ensemble cast includes Joo Won Kang (Figaroin last season’s The Barber of Seville) and Octavio Moreno (last seen in AZO’s 2014 mariachi opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna) sharing the role of Marcello; Marion Roose Pullin Studio Artists Kaitlyn Johnson and Cadie Jordan sharing the role of Musetta; Marion Roose Pullin Studio Artists Brandon Morales and Rob McGinness appear as Colline and Schaunard, respectively; and Jake Gardner portrays Alcindoro/Benoit.
