Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre (DST) announces the opening of Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” to the Valley on Friday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at their new location in Scottsdale Fashion Square.
Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” is based off of the Disney classic movie “Aladdin” and will be performed by talented youth actors in the Valley, ages three to nineteen. When street urchin, Aladdin, is desperate for the attention of a beautiful princess, Jasmine, he utilizes a genie’s magic power to transform him into a prince. He falls into trouble, realizing the dishonesty over his identity causes him more heartbreak than romance.
DST’s youth production features four rotating casts that showcase different actors in lead roles, allowing more talented youth actors the chance to shine on stage. DST believes all children deserve a chance to star in a show, while also having the chance to perform in various roles allowing them to learn, grow and expand as actors. DST’s youth actors learn and perform all aspects of a production from acting, dancing, singing, technical work, assisting in choreography and, in some cases, assisting in directing! This production of “Aladdin Jr.” is directed by DST veteran Lisa Barton Figueroa. Figueroa started her DST career as a child actor and is now one of the most prominent directors at the theatre.
“Aladdin Jr.” performances will run from May 18 through June 17 with shows every Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Desert Stages Theatre Cullity Hall. To purchase tickets visit desertstages.org or call the box office at 480-483-1664.
Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre is located at 7014 East Camelback Road, Suite 0586, Scottsdale, AZ, 85251.
