The MIM
Pack up the family and head to the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) where visitors are invited to learn about the Stradivarius, enjoy their favorite Artist and journey across the world through the Geographic galleries.

The MIM offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to see, hear and observe the instrument, in their proper context at a majority of the displays featuring state-of-the-art audio and video. The MIM is an exciting and dynamic global instrument museum, featuring 6,000 instruments collected from around 200 countries and territories with over 360 exhibits throughout the museum. “The museum’s collection of more than 15,000 instruments and artifacts was acquired in the geographic and cultural regions where these instruments are played and have the most cultural relevance”, states the MIM.

Global Music Galleries

The museum offers several galleries for patrons to enjoy including in their Geographic Galleries, which focuses on five major global regions: Africa and the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the United States and Canada. Play in the Experience Gallery where all guests are invited to play a variety of instruments from around the world. Get lost in the Artist Gallery where they showcase music icons through the eras including Johnny Cash, Taylor Swift, and Maroon 5 just to name a few. Also the exhibitions highlight instruments played and/or owned by the spotlighted musician, costumes worn, and video footage of them performing live on stage.

Stradivarius Special Exhibition

Explore the beauty and mystic behind the legendary Stradivarius in the special exhibition titled: Stradivarius: Origins and Legacy of the Greatest Violin Maker. “This special exhibition will introduce the story of how early violin makers from the modest Italian city of Cremona shaped global music from the 16th century onward. Discover the history of the violin through timeless masterpieces handcrafted by Cremonese master luthiers, including Andrea Amati, Guarneri del Gesù and Antonio Stradivari. Stradivarius: Origins and Legacy of the Greatest Violin Maker will be on view through June 5, 2016. In conjunction with the exhibition the MIM is hosting a special 2-day event “Experience Italy” on June 4th and June 5th from 9am until 5pm. Visitors are invited to explore and celebrate Italian music, culture, food, as well as enjoy gallery talks, performances, and hands-on activities for all ages.

Artist Gallery

The Musical Instrument Museum is located at 4725 E. Mayo Boulevard in Phoenix (corner of Tatum and Mayo Boulevards, just south of Loop 101). The museum is open daily 9-5pm with admission prices ranging general adult $20, Teens (13-19) $15, Children (4-12) are $10 and Children (3 and under) are free.
