Lit Lounge kicks off the New Year on January 9th with a sold out show at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art!

This will also be the final show hosted by Tania Katan, who recently announced her departure from the SMoCA to pursue her own career. As always attracting some of the best talent from across the country, Lit Lounge continues to explore and confront challenging issues with humor and intelligence. January features an incredible evening with an amazing list of creative’s including filmmaker, author and comedian Jessie Kahnweiler, activist and author Paul Bendix, actor and writer Debra Gettleman, celebrated stand-up comedian Dhaya Lakshminarayanan and special musical guest Anamieke Quinn.

Jessie Kahnweiler who is a talented author and filmmaker producing edgy and raw films including Meet my Rapist, Dude, Where’s my Chutzpah?, which have been featured on Huffington Post, The Daily Beast, Elle, Jezebel and BuzzFeed.Paul Bendix is the acclaimed author of “Dance Without Steps” who has wrote about his life after a brutal attack and its aftermath. He is now an active public speaker and activist against gun violence.

Debra Gettleman is an actor and writer based in Scottsdale currently a contributing writer for Arizona Jewish Life Magazine and her blog http://unmotherlyinsights.com/. Dhaya Lakshminarayanan is a San Francisco based comedian, teacher, and television host, performing across the country and receiving numerous awards.

Also special musical guest and Scottsdale local Anamieke Quinn will perform her always catchy tunes that are eclectic and funky mixed with folk rock ballads. The always entertaining Tania Katan, a well known activist, writer and humorist, will host the evening marking her final Lit Lounge as she leaves her post with the SMoCA.Lit Lounge is an “award-winning, highly-charged story-performing series where writers and performers share true stories fused together with live music.”

This captivating evening is presented in the SMoCA Lounge, established back in 2011 also showcases dynamic art installations that are site specifically designed for community engagement and public events. Currently on view in SMoCA Lounge is “Radiate”, created by artist James Marshall (a.k.a. Dalek) utilizing Latex paint, a bold color palette and strong lines that has completely transformed the existing walls and furniture.
