Traveling this holiday season, well be sure to check out the amazing artwork showcased in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Right now visitors will be captivated by STEAMPUNK: THE EXQUISITE ADVENTURE exhibition, which is currently on view in the Terminal 3 Gallery.

This exhibition features fun and engaging artwork, artifacts, costumes, characters, and adventurous stories. Steampunk is social in nature and this exhibition highlights Local, national, and international Steampunks. They are sharing their captivating creations—“building a world of romance, adventure, imagination, and beauty amid the timeless themes of exploration and investigation”. This exhibition was previously on view in early January 2014 at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library. Steampunk has really gained in popularity over the last few years and it has been popping up all over with events, websites, books, galleries, museums, and more. New to the Steampunk genre like I am, well just think Jules Verne’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” or H.G. Wells’ “Time Machine” as well as including the old west mixed with Victorian era science-fiction. STEAMPUNK: THE EXQUISITE ADVENTURE is an in depth museum exhibition in one of the World’s busiest airports! Artist and Steampunk enthusiast, Susan Rubin co-curated this exhibition with Scottsdale Public Art Collections and Exhibition Manager, Wendy Raisanen.

There are three separate Steampunk displays at Sky Harbor’s Terminal 3, Level 2, conveniently located north, south and east of the Terminal’s Level 2 Starbucks. Admission to the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Gallery is free. This exhibition is definitely worth a trip to the airport even if you aren’t traveling this season! This is a fun and unique exhibition that is guaranteed to  transport you to a new world!
