Description

Community Volunteer Fair at The Historic Y, February 19, 2018
Join social and environmental activists, curious Tucsonans looking to make connections with other members of their community, and others frustrated by the current political climate who are looking for ways to get involved and make a difference. Find out about the many organizations that are fighting for social and environmental justice, equality and liberal progressive causes that are seeking volunteers. Enjoy beer, snacks, music and camaraderie in the lovely lobby and courtyard of The Historic Y.

Similar to our first Fair on Presidents’ Day 2017, participating organizations will be both social and political, with an emphasis on fighting for equality and social justice and protecting the environment and vulnerable populations and causes.  Last year there were a total of 65 organizations represented. We expect as many or more this year.
Also this year there will be 15-20 minute mini-workshops on the following topics:
3:30 Best Practices in Registering a Voter, the OFA Way
4:00 Letters to Editors - Join Us and Learn How
4:30 Fake News or Real News: How to Tell the Difference
5:00 Using the Arizona Legislature’s Request to Speak Program (RTS)
5:30 Discussion of the Effects of Islamaphobia on Muslim Children

Following the Fair, there will be additional social time to encourage introductions, collaboration and idea exchange. And at 7, there will be a staged reading of Monica Bauer's political play, "The Real Machiavelli" in the Scoundrel and Scamp Theater, free and open to all.
