While the Arizona Humane Society is known for caring for the Valley’s sick, injured and abused pets, the shelter is also dedicated to helping keep owned pets in their loving homes when possible. From resources to low-cost services, there are many ways AHS works to do this including its owned animal foster program – Project Home Away From Home.
Project Home Away From Home is an essential part of supporting our community’s pet parents. This temporary foster program provides a safe haven for pet owners in a critical time of need and facing housing instability, domestic violence, other crises or even deployed with the military. By becoming a Foster Hero for pets in this program, you are not only opening your heart and home to these pets, but you are also standing alongside fellow pet owners in our community who need our support now more than ever.
Pets like Sheena, a gorgeous 10-year-old Rottweiler mix whose family is unfortunately experiencing troubles with housing. While they are working to secure stability, Sheena will need temporary foster for a few months. Sheena will need an understanding family that allows her to adjust while in her new space and would do best meeting the other pets in the home.
One of the biggest issues people tend to have with fostering pets like Sheena is they fear they will fall in love and want to adopt them all. A great part of this program is knowing you are not only helping pets in need but also an important part of helping them reunite with their loving family!
