Singled Out

Yes. I am single, but you have to be amazing to change that.

This is our first year presenting the Most Eligible Phoenicians. There are so many single people out there looking for that perfect match. We introduce 16 awesome locals who are in the market for that someone special. This was a fun idea we came up with and had a tremendous response. If you did not make the list, we simply did not have the space inside the magazine— but there’s always next year. We thank everyone who submitted; we did not realize the response would be this great. We wanted to showcase successful people over 25 who are out there working hard and, bottom line, very smart, fun, loving and caring. I personally know a few of them, and I know they are really good people with high standards.

Yes, being single has some benefits like going on horrible dates and getting to tell your life story over and over again. Not really! There are two types of single people out there. There are the ones who truly enjoy being single and dating many people with no commitment. Then, most fall into the class of wanting to find that perfect person to be with and marry. There is no doubt that most people fall into this category but, because of past relationships, they tend to be more careful and not want to make a mistake again or have friends who are unhappily married and want to avoid that. The single people we meet seem to all want that perfect relationship and will not settle. That keeps them looking and not realizing they may have to compromise on some items. People must make a list of deal breakers. If you cannot give into some things, there is no way, I believe, you will be able to find that perfect match. Dating experts advise us to make a list of a couple of deal breakers like smoking, kids, height, weight and age. What is your deal breaker?

I love this saying: “Yes. I am single, but you have to be amazing to change that.” I truly believe we all want to be happy and with someone that we can trust, love and share life’s journey with. I personally have learned from the past and look forward to spending my life with one truly amazing person. I know that will happen in 2013. Congratulations to everyone who is happily married. There are many people out there
who want what you have.

The Thunderbirds do an amazing job, and I always must say thank you for making this a signature event for the Valley.
