“I love Motley Crue. When I play, I’m completely that character and not myself.”

It‘s like playing pretend dress-up, but to the four MetalHead musicians, it‘s a radical dream career.

They perform four to five times a week, often in Tucson and Vegas, and you can catch the fab-four every Sunday at Martini Ranch.  The local staple is well-known throughout our area jamming at parties and events, but Colby says their favorite place to strut their stuff is at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

“We’re really amped to bring it this year.”

Get ready to rock.  This year marks the ninth time the guys will “bring it” at the Bird’s Nest, the hot spot for Phoenix Open party-goers.

“The Open is Scottsdale’s best event of the year. It’s just one of the greatest parties.”

For Colby, the party started when he was a teen.  That’s when the bassist formed a high school band with his buddy “Tommi,” the drummer of MetalHead.

Over the years, Colby’s been a part of many groups; in fact, MetalHead is just one of the three bands he’s a part of.

The Ohio-native moved to the Valley about thirty years ago determined to tap into the music biz.  In 2002, he and his pal “Tommi” picked up “Mikey” and “Lucky,” and the four formed MetalHead; however, when the guys are not playing, you can often catch Colby in the kitchen.  He lives in Tempe, and admittedly enjoys cooking for his girlfriend.

“I would say my favorite is seafood.”

But his heart lies on-stage rocking rolled sleeves and a mo-hawk, singing the tunes he’s always loved.

“I was just looking for another avenue; a way to play those songs.”

It’s an avenue bringing fans back to the 80’s, during a show that’s bound to provide you with a “kickin,’” “bitchin,’” good time.

You can catch MetalHead at the 2011 Waste Management Phoenix Open Bird’s Nest on Saturday, February 5th.
