California living is the envy of all, and us Phoenicians are known for taking advantage of the beautiful coastal state to our west.  It’s no secret that many Phoenix residents opt for family road trips to Southern California.  Unlike our harsh triple digit temperatures, San Diego offers an enjoyable climate to create memorable experiences for the entire family.

This season, Loews Coronado Bay Resort is a prime spot for travelers looking to enjoy vacation time. Perched on its own 15-acre peninsula, Loews Coronado Bay is a private oasis of tranquility. This Coronado hotel offers unbelievable views of the shimmering bay waters and the vivacious San Diego skyline. As a “Wonderful Place to Wander,” Loews is offering a special promotion through the end of the year that highlights the unique experiences of infamous Coronado Bay.

This summer, my family had the opportunity to spend a weekend at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Although there are many reasons why Valley residents are choosing to stay at Loews, here is a glimpse of some unforgettable features:

The Marina – You never have to leave the hotel to fully experience the awe-inspiring Bay and Pacific Ocean. The Marina at Loews Coronado Bay offers full access to everything your heart may desire.  Whether you want to rent or take lessons on a sailboat, speed boat or wave runner, learn kayaking or brave the waves with a paddle board , Loews has what you want. The Marina staff is welcoming and extremely knowledgeable, the rentals are in pristine condition and the prices surely don’t break the bank. To celebrate the “Wonderful Place to Wander” promotion, my family had an opportunity to have a sailboat excursion on Coronado Bay.  And, since we were somewhat familiar with boating –we have a speedboat – my husband actually received personal sailing instruction.  One-on-one, with our guide, we navigated the Bay and had an ultimate sailing experience.  To say this was a memorable experience doesn’t seem like enough – it was truly one of the best times my family has ever had.

The Beach – Coronado and the beach typically go hand in hand.  So, if being a beach bum is on your to-do list, Loews has made it extremely accessible.  Surrounded by the bay and Pacific Ocean, Loews Coronado Bay is a one-of-a-kind water-lovers’ vacation destination. In fact, the resort is located directly across the street from Silver Strand State Beach. Stroll along the sugar-fine sand as you look for shells or simply enjoy the sounds of the surf. Known for its preservation of sea life and interesting plant life, Silver Strand is home to sand dollars, snowy plovers and grunions.  You can take the short walk – about 5 minutes,  to the beach, or you can take a quick complimentary trolley to Silver Strand State Beach. A Loews staff member escorts you to the tiny beach shack, where staff will be waiting to set up beach chairs and umbrellas and help with wake boards and sand toys.

Pool & Fitness – This beach resort offers some unique fitness options – which were highlights of my trip.  Beach yoga was my favorite: A seasoned yogi leads a class right on Silver Strand State Beach – truly a perfect way to start the day.  Loews Coronado Bay also has Marina Spin: Set overlooking the Bay on an oversized patio, an energizing spin class is taken to new heights with the incredible view.  Loews Coronado Bay also has three heated pools for you to enjoy, including one just for adults. Settle in, and prepare to be pampered by Poolside Concierge, with extras such as chilled fruit and towels or delicious smoothies. Activities such as an aqua-fitness class and Dive-In Movies make things all that more fun for adults and kids alike.

Rooms with a View –Loews Coronado offers a truly unique ambiance for your overnight stays.  Even the pickiest of travelers will find accommodations that will best suit their needs, For example, my family stayed in the Bayside King Suite, which is perched directly over beautiful San Diego bay (pictured below is our view.) With a location separate from the rest of the resort, they offer exclusive privacy with all of the resort amenities.  From Resort Rooms to Presidential Suites, every room offers luxury and comfort.

Dining – Restaurants onsite are all about locally grown products, farm-fresh ingredients and innovative menus created by their award-winning chefs that capture the unique flavors of this remarkable Southern California destination. Jump-start your day with Brioche French Toast — all while enjoying stunning views of the marina. For lunch, head out to the pool and try some authentic southwestern fare from La Cantina. Their signature restaurant, Crown Landing, offers one-of-a-kind, locally-inspired fare with a commitment to sourcing seasonal, sustainable ingredients. Chef Jamie Dunn shines a spotlight on San Diego's distinct character, flavors and the freshest seafood available.  In addition, Cays Lounge offers breathtaking views of the San Diego skyline and Coronado Bay, along with a light fare menu, signature cocktails and local craft beers brewed in San Diego.
