Brett Saks, above all, was an inspiration for those around him. A husband, father, doctor, friend, he was determined and passionate about helping people. It was this passion that lead him to the Qualcomm Million Dollar Challenge, which is a charity bike ride that aims to raise a million dollars every year to benefit athletes who need prostetics or have other challenges. It was during the training for this 600 mile bike ride in 2008 that Brett Saks - father, husband, friend - was killed by a driver under the influence of sleeping pills.
This weekend, the Brett Saks Foundation will hold it's first annual Brett Saks Safety Festival. It will take place Sunday, September 30th, from 8:30am-3:30pm at Chandler's Tumbleweed Park. This day-long event is sure to have something for everyone in your family to enjoy! For a $5 per family admission fee, you can enjoy bounce houses, guest speakers, vendors, a BMX trick team presentaion, and more.
For instance, there will also be Kiddie-bike-rides for children both 5 and under and 6 and up (the latter will be around Tumbleweed Park's 3 mile-perimeter) as well. Registration for those bike rides are $15/individual or $30/family and include festival admssion.
All proceeds from the Brett Saks Safety Festival will benefit Arizona Disabled Sports cycling program, which is a great organization that helps athletes who have physical challenges participate in the sports they love. Brett Saks was passionate about cycling, so it's only fitting that this event bearing his name would support such a great organization.
This is going to be a really fun day for the whole family! Again, the Brett Saks Safety Festival will take place on Sunday, September 30th from 8:30am-3:30pm at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler (on McQueen and Germann). I hope to see you there!
