With the high temperature over 100 degrees nearly every day, we're certainly in the dredges of the Arizona summer, and sometimes there is only one cure for those high temps...ice cream!!   I'd like to introduce you to a vintage ice cream shop in Phoenix: Mary Coyle's.  Located in central Phoenix, Mary Coyle's has been serving up cool treats that are made in-house since 1951.   Sarah is pictured above with the "Original Bowl" - vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream with cherry, pineapple, marshmallow and bananas.  Yum!!

There's honestly no limit to what you can order at Mary Coyle's - for instance: The Grand Canyon.   The photo is a little hard to read, so here's a recap: 11 pounds of ice cream.  Yes, not 11 scoops....11 POUNDS - I can only imagine how many people that can feed!   Including giant ice cream bowls like the Grand Canyon and the Mountain, you can also order sandwiches and salads - it's all delicious sounding old-fashioned diner fare.

Jeremiah wanted a root beer float - which come in a variety of sizes, as well as the 'Black Cow' option (cola and ice cream).   You can order specialty sundaes, made to order ice cream sandwiches (made with homemade chocolate chip cookies!) and other delicious cool treats.   There are 27 flavors currently, with additional flavors that rotate throughout the seasons, so watch out for those seasonal favorites - peach in the summer, pumpkin in the fall, eggnog around Christmastime.

I love the old fashioned ice cream shop feel inside of Mary Coyle's - the female servers dress true-to-form in poodle skirts and the decor has that rockin' 50's feel to it.  Check out Mary Coyle's for a nice cool down on these hot summer days!

Mary Coyle's is located on 7th Avenue, between Camelback and Bethany Home roads (5521 N 7th Avenue, Phoenix).  They're open Monday-Thursday 11am-10pm, Friday and Saturday 11am-11pm, and Sunday 1130am-9pm.
