Scottsdale Company Aids Nepal Earthquake Victims
During the month of May, AZADI Fine Rugs is donating $50 dollars from the sale of every rug to help victims of the Nepal earthquake. David Neishabori, the owner of AZADI Fine Rugs, met earthquake survivor Pushpa Basnet when "Waiting for Mamu" debuted at the 2014 Sedona International Film Festival. At the presentation of the film in Sedona, Neishabori surprised everyone with the donation of a year’s worth of rent for Butterfly Home, a nonprofit organization founded by Basnet and based in Nepal. Over the past year, they have developed a friendship. In order to help the survivors get tents, grain, sugar, salt and more, the $50 per sale donated by AZADI will benefit Unicef-Unite for Children, Relief efforts in Nepal.
May 2: Big Surf Waterpark's Food Drive for Half-Off Admission
During the first three weekends of May, each guest of Big Surf Waterpark who brings in at least five non-perishable food items for St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance will receive the 50 percent off of general admission, which is normally priced at $29.95. This promotion begins on Saturday, May 2, when Big Surf Waterpark opens for its 46th season, as well as on Sunday, May 3; Saturday, May 9 ; Sunday, May 10; Saturday, May 16; and Sunday, May 17.
Additionally, on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, moms get in for free and everyone else in the group will receive 50 percent off of general admission by each bringing in at least five non-perishable food items as well.
The Grand Canyon Railway Fires Up Antique Steam Engine
Expect a rare sight, sound and experience this spring as The Grand Canyon Railway fires up its antique 1923 steam engine. Endangered in today’s world of high-tech travel, the 92-year-old Locomotive No. 4960 steam engine will run the 65 miles from Williams to the Grand Canyon the first Saturday of every month through September 2015, as well as a few designated holidays.
