Description

What: Join Ability360 for a one-of-a-kind weekend encouraging athletes with both upper and lower extremity amputations who use prosthetics to stand up and play.

Who: This event is open to athletes registered for the tournament as well as spectators, family and friends, Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center members, community partners and aspiring athletes. There will be a youth camp on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon for children ages 5-16, in partner with NubAbility Athletics.  Additionally, this will be a Friday night documentary featuring three amputee athlete’s stories.

When: Friday, May 16 night movie from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the conference room at Ability360, 5025 E. Washington St. and Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 2025, beginning at 12:30pm both days, on the basketball courts

Friday Night: “The Power of Sports for Amputees”, a documentary following three athletes with leg limb loss in achieving their dreams. A special showing will take place at the Ability360 Conference Room. A panel with Nick Pryor, Program Manager of Athletics at Ability360, Jillian Okimoto, Hanger Clinic and Marci Krown, film director/producer. There is plenty of accessible parking.

Why: The 2025 Cactus Classic Basketball Tournament is bringing together athletes who use prosthetics from across the country for a two-day event designed to foster a sense of connection and community while inspiring others to work toward their goals.

Silver event sponsors include Swift Charities and WAYMO.

Saturday’s events feature 3-on-3 games in a round robin format.

Sunday’s moves to a 5-on-5 runs with team captains snake drafting players.

Youth will be able to compete in the tournament following their camp. NubAbility Athletics and all coaches will be Amp1 basketball players.
