Description

The Children’s Museum of Phoenix will again offer something new for visitors this week – BOX Mania opens on Friday, September 20th and will be at the Museum through October 18th.

Box Mania is a hands-on, creative, over-the-top exhibit where children and families will experience the joy of a child’s favorite play thing – boxes. Cardboard boxes of all sizes will take over the Museum’s first floor atrium space and will encourage kids to build, create, decorate, tinker and explore this three-dimensional, child-centered exhibit. Trinkets and tools will be provided to connect boxes, create openings, decorate and more.

The educational benefits of play with boxes are numerous. Children build spatial awareness skills as they explore the placement of boxes and their location in and around them. Little ones feel empowered as they can move, manipulate and investigate these large-scale, yet lightweight, boxes. Imaginative play abounds in interactions with cardboard boxes. Children can imagine the box as a rocket ship, a bear cave or a castle. One of the greatest benefits however is showcasing that sometimes a simple cardboard box is all that a child needs for playtime.

Fun facts: Did you know the cardboard box is in the National Toy Hall of Fame? It was inducted in 2005 as a classic toy over the years. Also, it was the English that invented the first commercial cardboard box in 1817.

BOX Mania is free with paid Museum admission of $14.95 per person. Members and children under the age of 1 are free.
