Description

After Ashley O’Neill’s wedding was suddenly cancelled, her first thought was, “How do I turn this unfortunate situation into something good?” The solution was to make the event a fundraiser for something close to her heart as an ICU nurse: organ donation and transplantation.

On Feb. 23, 2019, O’Neill and her mother will be sponsoring the 4th Annual Wine & Dine Fundraiser at Windmill Winery in Florence, Ariz. The proceeds will benefit Transplant Community Alliance, a local charity that offers support and resources to enhance and protect the quality of life for transplant recipients, caregivers and their families.

“I have had the opportunity to see first-hand how organ donation affects many lives. I myself am an organ donor, and although it is a very sad time for the donor’s loved ones, they have the opportunity to touch so many lives in a positive way,” says O’Neill.

She encourages everyone to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor at DonateLifeAZ.org.

O’Neill invites community members to attend the Wine & Dine Fundraiser. The evening will include a gourmet dinner thoughtfully prepared by Kiss the Chef, Arizona wine from Windmill Winery, fun raffle prizes and an opportunity to learn about the positive impact of the Alliance’s services.

Cesar Alvarez, a liver recipient, is one of the guest speakers for the evening. Alvarez was injured on the job while working as a Los Angeles County firefighter. After retiring and moving to Arizona in 2008, doctors diagnosed Alvarez with non-alcoholic incurable liver disease and told him he would require a liver transplant. Years after receiving his own gift of life, Alvarez actively volunteers his time to the Alliance to help build a strong transplant community and promote an active, healthy lifestyle for post-transplant patients.
