Description

Phil Mastores and his wife Sarah recently spent a month traveling across Africa, where Phil had the opportunity to capture many amazing photos of the villagers and wildlife they encountered during their travels. Thursday, January 17th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. VALLEYLIFE will be hosting an “Out of Africa” art show featuring the photos he took on the trip. The art show will be held in the Erika Y. Schafer Art Gallery on VALLEYLIFE’s main campus, 1142 W. Hatcher Rd., Phoenix, Arizona.

The evening will include a presentation and slideshow, drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Framed photos will be on display in the art gallery and will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the sales of the “Out of Africa” photos will be donated to VALLEYLIFE. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Margaret Stephens-Reed, Director of Donor Relations, at 602.331.2414 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Growing up in Oklahoma, Phil dreamed of getting away to a wider world. In 1978, he travelled to London where he spent 14 years as a professional photographer working for architects and interior designers. In 1983, he met Sarah, a British nurse with the same wanderlust. They started their travels in a tiny beat up van named Harold. Since then, they have been fortunate enough to visit about 70 countries and love nothing more than to plan regular excursions.

Phil began volunteer work with VALLEYLIFE’s Adult Day Programs in 2010 where he reads to the Members and shares photos from his trips. VALLEYLIFE provides Residential Services, Day Services, Home and Community Based Services, and Vocational Services to people with disabilities. Founded in 1947, VALLEYLIFE has been serving the greater Phoenix area for over 71 years.
