Description

The second annual celebrated event in Scottsdale is being held on Saturday, November 10th, 2018, at the Scottsdale Airport. On the podium will be emcee and nationally syndicated radio hosts, Mike Broomhead and iHeart Radio’s Melissa Sharpe, along with Vice-Mayor Guy Phillips who will provide Veterans Day comments.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial and its new scholarship program for students interested in careers in various aspects of the aviation industry.  Additionally, funds will be used for the educational kiosks at the Memorial.  These touch screen kiosks will highlight the history of the airfield, various aviation careers and provide a tribute to all Veterans.

Thunderbird Field II, now the Scottsdale Airport, originally opened June 22, 1942 as an Army Air Corp training facility.  Over 5,500 AAC pilots trained in the Stearman PT-17 aircraft.  The Memorial itself, commemorates the rich history of the airfield and provides a tribute to all Veterans. A Stearman PT-17, the kind that flew at Thunderbird Field II in the 1940’s, is the centerpiece of the Veterans Memorial

The hangar party will have various WWII military aircrafts, vehicles and 1940’s era cars on display.  A great “Chow Line,” 1940’s style cocktails, big band music and of course dancing will be featured. To compliment the mood and ambiance, all attendees are encouraged to dress in 1940’s attire.

The Venue – Starting under the Stearman PT-17 at the Thunderbird Field II Memorial, 15000 N Airport Drive, the hangar party will move into the Gemini Air Group south hangar, mere feet away.  The event will celebrate all Veterans as well as the birthday of the United States Marine Corp.  After the somber POW-MIA tribute ceremony, the event will feature a Live and Silent Auction and other opportunities for participants to support Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial.
