A Fourth of July tradition since the 1930s, the Hopi Festival of Arts & Culture features 90 award-winning artists and presenters from the Hopi villages in northern Arizona. Buy traditional and contemporary art and enjoy Heritage Insights lectures, artist demonstrations, and performances by the Hopi Sinom Dancers, Tyrone & The Ledge, Tha 'Yoties, and flutist Fredrick Andrews.

Join Hopi fine artist Duane Koyawena for a discussion of the importance art as a form of rehabilitation and learn how Koyawena’s chosen medium has helped him and other on their journey to rehabilitation.

12:15 pm The Hopi Harvey Project I with Colleen Lucero
In this two-part series, project manager and curator of the Hopi Harvey Project, Colleen Lucero, will discuss the history between the Fred Harvey Company and Hopi, and highlight the women who made the courageous decision to leave their homes and work as waitresses for the Fred Harvey Company.

1:45 pm Extraordinary Women with Iva Honyestewa
Master basket weaver, Iva Honestewa will relate the historical role of women in Hopi culture and celebrates the extraordinary women all over the world.

3:15 pm Sunflower Girl with Ed Kabotie
Museum artist-in-residence, Ed Kabotie, will present three spoken word and musical performances for the Heritage Insights series. On the mainstage and lecture hall, Ed will relate the importance of matrilineal identity among Puebloan people by sharing personal memories of the influential matriarchs of his family. Using music of both traditional and contemporary inspirations, this presentation will highlight the Hopi’s deep reverence for their mothers.
